Oh Oklahoma! April 25-30

Oklahoma turned out to be more fun than we expected.  We started out with an overnight at Tulsa Camping World to have a few roof items repaired due to a low-flying tree in PA's Allegheny National Forest.  The roof needed some drying time, so we caught an overnight in Tulsa.  Thanks insurance!

Rainy evening entering Oklahoma.  Nice catch on the sign pic, piper!

Changing light display on the Performing Arts Center outside our 12th floor Hyatt room.

Walkabout to the Guthrie Green, named after Woody Guthrie ("this land is your land")

and the stars outside Cain's ballroom!

Back in the rig and on the road, our next night was at Osage Hills State Park.

The highlight on our hike there was the late-1930's CCC camp.  (This fireplace looks similar to ones at Elmore St Pk in VT.)

Saw bison at the Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve

and lots of birds at Great Salt Plains Lake ...

from the coolest blind we've ever seen!

Overnighted at Sunset Hills Golf Course (our second Harvest Hosts campout) in Guymon.  Between laundry, gas, and WalMart, the highlight of the morning was

        watching this train go by.

(if you don't know, piper loves trains)

Black Mesa State Park is a 'Dark Sky' site.  The camp hosts put out a big telescope the night we stayed there!

We checked out the Black Mesa - Oklahoma's highest point at 4,973' (higher than Vermont's Mansfield at 4.393').

And then found the dinosaur tracks.

See, lots more to Oklahoma than you thought.
